From time to time, we all need to “speed clean”. Whether you own a 4 bedroom home in Chandler, AZ or a small studio apartment in Scottsdale, it is important to consider using effective and safe cleaning techniques. For the sake of time, we will cut to the chase and give you the top 5 most common cleaning mistakes. (Or you can just hire us!)
1. Re-using rags
It would seem that the fastest and most efficient way to clean multiple rooms quickly, would be to get one rag to rule them all. However, using a fresh rag will help with containing bacteria, germs and dirt. The best bet would be to use different rags for each room, perhaps different colors to help identify which rag to use.
2. Failing to Empty Vacuums
You just finished vacuuming each room which helped to burn a couple extra calories. You’re done with the vacuum, right? Well, not exactly. The next step is to clean out the vacuum bag or can to completely remove dust (or bugs) that were picked up from each room.
3. Disinfecting Wipes on Dirty Surfaces
In order to disinfect surfaces, they need to be clean. To properly disinfect, start with wiping a dirty surface with a cloth or rag using soap and water first. Then, use your disinfecting wipes to sanitize/disinfect.
4. Not Cleaning the Toilet Brush
Perhaps the dirtiest place in a home is a toilet. It is important to clean toilets on a regular basis. A toilet brush is an effective tool because it allows you to scrub hard-to-reach places. Toilet brushes (and holders) can hold germs if not completely cleaned. On a regular basis, make sure to submerge the brush into a cup of white vinegar to kill off bacteria and let it dry out.
5. Forgetting Walls
Catching a small bug or a mark on the wall is usually the extent that walls are cleaned. Walls can get dirty over a period of time when overlooked. Maintaining dust free walls is a start, but your best bet would be to wipe down your walls with soap and water to maintain proper cleanliness. Prevention of streaks can be done by wiping down.
